The Kindness Mines

Transcending himself down a rope, a candle taped to his helmet, Canary in a cage, all heaven in a rage. The Blue Knight reach down to the lower level of the mine, where the seam of Kindness had been extracted. Along the tunnel, pit-props constructed of laminated endearments, creaked under the strain.

All heaven in a rage

I shall have to travel to the far reaches of this tunnel to extract a bag full, thought the BK, Let me now gird myself.

When he had gone thus far, he kicked his bucket in the confusion of silence and far below a listening drum began to tap out a sombre rhythm.

I am not alone it seems, thought the BK.

When he had reached the bitter end of his tether. (He was using this so that he could find his way home) The Blue Knight came to the wall where Kindness was encase like the ripple in strawberry ripple. Although not in its purest form, which would require extensive refinement, the Kindness glowed in the rock like frozen fluorescent waves.

Now the insistent rhythm of the drums seemed to preface a dodgy outcome. They are coming, we cannot get out.

The Canary, which had opened the door of its cage, said, I’d get the hell outa here if I were you, and disappeared, flying low along the tunnel.

In great haste, The Blue Knight took his pickaxe and bucket, prepared to chip out some Kindness ore. He swung his pickaxe many times in quick and a scree of parts rained from the rock. He gathered them in his adjacent bucket.

A thin seam of Kindness.

Have you seen my canary? He said to the dark, Will another bird do? Said the dark. The drums seemed to be unsettling the pit props and a rain of dust fell intermittent from the roof beams. The BK had filled his bucket but. Soon his candle was too short and sent the darkness home to fill all the lighted zones. I shall follow my tether, said the Blue Knight to himself, the Canary has gone awol. Judged by an angry Canary, what is it all coming to.

The Blue Knight, alone in the loudening drumbeat, beat a hasty retreat along the tether made of coarse string, suitable for restraining a goat or small dog. It could also be used for tying up stray vines in the garden.

Oliver sudden a pitprop snapped with a resounding detonation and the sound of complaining tectonics filled the air. The BK, carrying his precious cargo, ran swiftly along the tunnels as a second, third, fourth, fifth and six, indeed all the props gave out and the ceiling rocks came tumbling down.

Lying in the rubble at the entrance to the mine, coughing in a cloud, the Knight watched the back end of the Canary as it flew exit stage forwards.

His bucket of Kindness, now without precedent the most precious, as the mine was now unworkable.

He took it to the refinement area nearby and gently sifting through various gauzes to separate and then awash in copious clear to clean. The time came to bottle and embark. After all the treatments, all that remain as pure was a bottle the size of eye dropper. But there in was so strong that it must be diluted for use.

The Blue Knight administered a label in case of accident. Saying,

This is the last bottle of Kindness available in shops now, The mine has collapse, no more supplies in the pipeline or by container ship from the far away. Contents, Pure Kindness. Kindness 100%, no fats or sugars, a small amount of colourant (so that you know its there) No palm oil, only caught by line, no massive nets involved. Mode d’emploi, Put a single drop in the water reserve for an entire catchment area and allow to dissipate. Do not let it drop on any shiny surfaces or printed materials. Always try first on a small area which is hard to see before applying generously. Allow seventeen and a half hours before applying a second coat and wash out brushes and paraphernalia in warm water with a drop of washing up liquid. Always allow to dry completely before commenting on the colour as spouses and interested parties may become unnecessarily upset. Arguments may ensue which, in hindsight, seem petty. In the fallings out, always take a step back before replying, sleep on it and take a deep breath. Breath in through the nose and out through the mouth seven times. Stretch your limbs and drop your shoulders down your spine, don’t do yoga unless you want to. Compulsory yoga or Tai Chi is out of the question.

Many Thanks

Yours Faithfully

Blue Knight
