They asked the Blue Knight to Solve the Problem of the Used Wineskin Mountain.
Wineskins on the floor, wineskins in the trees, wineskins everywhere, a plague of wineskins, a plethora of wineskins.
Make them into something, he thought, hats? no, baby clothes? No, houses? impossible. Then the Blue Knight went to the street to see people, of their shoes were there none, their feet were sore and broken and cold.
Shoes, he thought, I shall fashion some Wineskin Shoes. I shall make a drawing with charcoal upon a parchment of the fine designs and that is what I shall draw. I will show these designs to the world and that is what they shall see. I will cause the Wineskin Shoes to be made and, in this way, I shall solve the problem of the sore and broken and cold feet and the Wineskin Mountain in one fell stroke and with this he was much pleased.
He took some charcoal and sat into the night, drawing and drawing and redrawing until he was satisfied. To the Guides of the City he went straight to show his preparation and that his Quest would be secured with them.
Coming to the great hall, where a fire was also laid, he placed his wares upon the table for all to see and they did see his drawings of the Wineskin shoes there, right there, shown to them on the table in full view. So, all the people that saw the drawings laughed so hard that their feet were no longer cold. Their hands were no longer cold either. The Blue Knight enquired ‘What is so funny?’ but they could not bring out a reply as the laughing was upon them. In time, when the laughing was part exhausted, one of them came and spoke with the Blue Knight saying, ‘I cannot explain why your Wineskin Shoes are not the solution to our problem, if you cannot see this for yourself, then I cannot. Safe to say you have Failed your Quest and must now perform a new Quest to satisfy our demands. Then you may stay in the Great City of Az and be one with us. You must descend into the Seven levels of Lies and bring back to us a Truth, be it a Great Truth or be it ever so Small a Truth. Then and only then will we receive you with honour in our great hall, where a fire has also been laid.’
With a sinking heart the Blue Knight set forth on his Quest to mine the Seven Levels of Lies for one Single Solid Truth.
