Constance Tames the Wind

On Friday, Constance traveled to the highest point, the high place, that she might find the wind so strong in its home. The wind blew mighty breaths and gusts, but Constance could not lay her hands upon it, nor hold it, nor grasp it in any way. She cast about, that she might discover the grasping of the wind in that high and rocky place. Soon, after a long while, in time, then she saw a flower spinning by, afloat on the air, pass by flying up higher where the wind waxed and falling low where the wind fell light.

Constance caught the flower and took it in her hand, she held it there and tethered it by a long thread from her coat, the flower flew up into the wind once more and pulled at the thread that held it, showing the power of the wind by itself.

Down from high she came with a vision of what may be. She took the flower to a place of making, with fine trades men and women, strong by experience to the fashioning of articles both useful and artistic. She charged them with the making and building of a great engine. A high tower to lift up the petals to the wind’s home, the long petals into the shape of the flower that she had carried there.

The engine stood as tall as a great tree and higher, holding the huge flower into the airs as they passed by letting the flowing wind catch its petals and making them to spin about.

Inside the engine found all hung about by belts and rings that must turn when the flower span about. This making power for the city without the burning of trees and the smokes that burn the throats of the children when they came to play outside.

Then was the city of Aznot saw the engine rise high and praised Constance for her vision and fortitude. They gave to her the keys of the City of Aznot that she might stay with them for her time.

This might have happened on a Saturday morning when the people rested.
