They came, three knights, a fox, and a box of thoughts, to great ravine across which spanned a bridge most marvellous. Beneath the bridge ran a fine river with quick cold waters whose body could not be easily crossed.
The knight Constance spoke, We shall cross the bridge now and come soon to the City.

Then, in time soon, a gruff fellow came from under the bridge hearing the voices. Like a beast but shaped in the shape of man with tusks and a tail, it stood to bar their onwards across. The beast had many attributes which were not seen often and made the travelers into disbelief.

Why cross you this bridge? said the being on the bridge, if you can tell me this you shall pass.
We go to the City of Az and there is no other crossing.
Why?
We go for many reasons, to become greener, to become educated and to find a spare heart are the main.
Why?
To help right the world in its Balance, to become a Clever Fox and to gain a Heart which might furnish this box with emotions, that it may ascertain if those same emotions colour our judgement.
Why?
I think, said Vivainne, that whatever we answer, you will always ask, why. I am tempted to ask Why do you ask Why. But I fear that this question would take us down a very long and winding road.
Why? Said the creature once more.
I thought as much, said Vivainne, I will tell you this thing and then I will pass across this bridge with my companions if you bar the way or no.
She spoke, Whatever a woman or a man may understand of this world and its ways, there will always remain a Why that cannot be satisfied. We travellers who pass this way quest for answers in good faith, with neither more nor less right than any other being. Therefore, grant us passage and bless our pilgrimage as we travel in search of the answers to our questions.
The gruff fellow on the bridge bowed low and speaking no more left the bridge in search of something to eat.
